Beauty Lifestyle Wiki
Beauty Lifestyle Wiki

Since products, trends and looks are endless; I am going to start by adding beauty items I use, have used or plan to get. Feel free to do the same! Articles are based on the beauty books I grew up with from the 70s and 80s. So if any information is dreadfully out of date—don't be shy to update.

Q & A:

Where do you get your beauty information? I do some cross referencing online but my resources are:

  • Behind the Scene with... Cecil B. by Cecil B.Productions Inc. - 1979
  • Revlon Art of Beauty by Revlon - 1982
  • The Complete Beauty Book by Coombe Books - 1985

Why a beauty lifestyle wiki? To be honest I like to read and see examples in the form of pictures over a youtube video and scouring beauty blogs hoping to get the information I want was becoming tedious. I thought "why isn't there a fan based Beauty Encyclopedia online anyways?".

Especially, when a blogger stops blogging—it stops (have you lost a favourite blogger?) but a Wiki can go on—new editor(s) can replace those editor(s) that leave. Here you can blog, comment, edit, etc. with your wiki profile activity and history available incase you forgot what you posted or if someone responded to you. Want to remain anonymous? That is an option too!

Wikis have their own photo hosting (did you have photobucket let you down too?), are YouTube friendly and have their own discussion platform.

Why is this different than other product database sites? This is volunteer site and open to helpful edits, unlike locked sites that in some cases don't even respond to emails—it's what "us the fans and volunteers want" to update and edit. Also, instead of one beauty fan or blogger's opinion or review how about multiple and as many in one place.

Why do you Quote the companies on article pages? I like the brands to give a chance to describe their product, give the product info and then let the reviews say the rest. Trying to keep the articles neutral but with the original intended effect of the item.

Why so much Urban Decay? I was in love with urban decay in the 90s but it wasn't available in my country at the time. In the early 2000s I went to a Sephora in another country and bought my first UD Eyeshadow palette and wished for Sephora, UD or both to be available in my country—and years later they finally were! So that last few years I have been playing catch up and I can't get enough.

What was my first Urban Decay item(s)? My first purchase was 4 items: Urban Decay:Shadow Box (Featuring: Oil Slick, Speed, Baked, Midnight Cowgirl, Uzi, Asphyxia, Sin and Shotgun), Oil Slick Eyeshadow, Envy Eyeshadow and Agony/Ecstasy Skitz-o-Stiyx Dual Lipstick.

Why so much OPI? What I like about OPI is their classic nail lacquers aren't going anywhere fast (some colours still around from their first launch 1989 collection) and can be both done as a mani or pedi at a nail salon or bought for at home use. Anyone I know who is serious about nail polish tends to be serious about OPI.

What are my favourite colours? My favourite colour is blue but to wear: purples, nudes, iridescence and golds. I like to wear both bold/bright colour looks and nude looks. I am not afraid of glitter or crazy lipstick colours and I am addicted to duotones, holographic and transformer shades.

I prefer nude, nude pink/peach, gold, iridescence and confetti and/or glitter nail polish because I will have premature chips because I wash dishes without gloves, etc. and it is less noticeable.

What are my beauty quirks and habits?

  • I have to always wear black eyeliner or black shadow as eyeliner on lashline.
  • I have to always have to have my brows filled in.
  • I have to always have to have my foundation on.
  • I rarely wear mascara.
  • I almost never wear blush; instead I often have highlighter and sometimes slight contouring shading.
  • I often skip the lipstick/lipgloss or not reapply.
  • I have been practicing an alternate shampoo/conditioner routine for over 2 years.
  • I use no soap on my face; instead I use water washing, witch hazel, mild exfoliation, etc.
  • I don't like being touched—so I do not like professional manicures and pedicures.
  • I get most my products on sale or discount, as gifts, with gift cards or redeeming points. I feel less guilty knowing I am spending about 1/2 or less of what it could be :P

2020 was year of the sweat pant and nail lacquer. So 2020—I vastly increased my nail lacquer collection, found an amplified love for nail colours and started a Nail Polish Journal.

Colouring Aftercare and Advanced Styling

To minimize damage and keep a somewhat No (Sham)Poo routine; I decided to opt out of purple shampoo and use a deep conditioning mask toner instead. As far as heat styling, I try to use only medium/low heat and usually only heat style after a water wash or toning.

Tone

Apply Virgin Snow toner to dry hair. Leave in for 2+ hours. Rinse with cool water. or;

Apply very conditioner diluted Purple Haze or Ultra Violet semi-permanent dye to dry hair. Leave in for 2+ hours. Rinse with cool water.
