I just finished reading “The Woman\u2019s Wakeup: How To Shake Up Your Looks, Life, And Love After 50” by Lois Joy Johnson. The book is a quick read, filled with over 50 beauty tips and much, much more. And, while it’s clear Johnson is catering to women over 50, much of the content is applicable for younger women as well.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Pick a page at random and you\u2019re sure to find a quotable quip to remind that you really can be cool and charismatic after 50.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Personal stories abound.<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This isn\u2019t one woman\u2019s tale. Johnson breaks up her own voice with reflections and advice from her accomplished friends.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

It\u2019s real.<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Johnson tackles\u2014and even celebrates\u2014the messy stuff, like divorce, online dating and menopause<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

She\u2019s credible.<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Johnson\u2019s resume is impressive. She was founding editor of MORE Magazine and the beauty and fashion director for over 10 years.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

And the best part: the book is actionable.<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Johnson delivers real, straightforward advice that you can actually implement today. To give you a taste of what I mean by that, here are a few of Johnson’s gems.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Over 50 beauty tips and more<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Get a silk pillowcase and shoot for at least seven hours of sleep nightly.<\/em> Silk minimizes stress<\/a> on your skin and hair\u2014plus it feels great too! Note that if you routinely have trouble sleeping, you’ll need to take more drastic action. A new mattress might be in order or, if stress is keeping you up, try meditating\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Listen to yourself and the younger ladies around you.<\/em> I got a chuckle out of this piece of advice: \u201cStop saying \u201cI know I sound like a broken record.\u201d Yeah, that dates you, especially when you\u2019re around people who\u2019ve never seen a record.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
