Nothing changes your perspective on fashion faster than a bun in the oven. I should know; I had a baby four weeks ago and so those nine months are fresh in my mind! For the first time in my life, shopping lost its glory. I felt like a diabetic in a candy store \u2014 everything was a no-no for me. Fashion was everywhere, taunting me, but I couldn’t wear any of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

But just because 99 percent of the stores were off-limits does not mean that I spent nine months in fashion prison. No way! So to all you preggers<\/a> peeps out there, I\u2019m here to tell you that you can still maintain style during pregnancy and you can do it on a budget, too! Here\u2019s how\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maternity style on a budget<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jewelry Essentials<\/strong>: Guess what still fits in every trimester? Jewelry! Plus, jewelry is the fastest way to change an outfit that you may end up wearing three times a week. Choose fun, oversized earrings and large but short necklaces (long necklaces will hang funny on your belly in your third trimester).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leggings and Jeans<\/strong>: Invest in one great pair of jeans and one or two pairs of comfy maternity leggings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heidi Klum\u2019s new line, Loved\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/g>\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n <\/clipPath>\r\n <\/defs><\/svg><\/span><\/a>, offers up great maternity denim wear on the cheap and is available at Motherhood, among other major maternity stores. But if you want to invest in one killer pair of designer maternity jeans, check out Pea in the Pod<\/use><\/svg><\/span><\/a> for your favorite brands (but with an expandable waist), like Joe\u2019s Jeans, Seven for All Mankind and True Religion. Always check the sale rack first, because if you buy the newest season they\u2019ll run you around $200.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scarves<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just like jewelry can salvage the same bored outfit in a dozen new ways, so can scarves! In addition, they can hide your belly when you want! So embrace your inner Frenchie and invest in a couple of fun and in-season scarves. Urban Outfitters<\/use><\/svg><\/span><\/a> carries plenty of fun scarves that will quickly change your look on the cheap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dresses<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dresses are a must, as those elastic bands on your maternity pants start out comfy and enjoyable but, by the last weeks, will be digging into your belly as hard as your baby will be kicking. Dresses provide your belly with some freedom and make breathing easier. Invest in a couple of solid-color dresses that you can change up with your new jewelry and scarves from stores like Old Navy, JCPenney and Loft. Then grab one or two more fun dresses with prints that you can save for special occasions, like parties and of course, your baby shower! I grabbed my favorite dress at Target on sale for just $13.97 (see above).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maternity Basics<\/strong>: Target is your savior when it comes to basics like solid-color tops, wrap sweaters (no, your own sweaters–even the biggest you own–will not fit by week 35), camis and empire-waist tops (your new best friend). Finally, don\u2019t be shy\u2013ask your friends if they have any hand-me-downs (if they\u2019re done reproducing) and check resale shops for even more bang for your buck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
