I despise these strappy, foundation torture devices. All the band sizes run 32, 34, 36in., etc, but I believe I’m in the 35in range with an A-cup, which is why I find them so constricting and uncomfortable. I do like to dress nicely on going out occasions and too often a bra is necessary b/c the outfit would be too revealing, or even crude.. Once I’m in the car for the drive home, I execute the “de-bra” maneuver by unhooking the back and then pulling the bra straps out from each arm, then pull bra out from underneath the upper or lower part of the garment. My husband always marvels at how fast and easily I can slip out of these suckers with no fuss. I’m quite sure many, many women have exercised this bra maneuver, even if they won’t admit it publically. I like dressing nicely and wear fashionable clothing, but feeling comfortable at the same time is paramount for me. Being a woman in her 50’s, we’re expected to dress appropriately and wear age-appropriate clothing. When it comes to buying tops, even pricey blouses, I typically look for garments that have two breast pockets. Also, nipple covers, whether silicone or flower petal options work wonders at times and can be inexpensive solutions. I can easily say I’ve managed to “pull off” the restrictive, uncomfortable feeling of bras for well over a year or more by going braless. Truth be told, with only being an A-cup woman, I really don’t require the support that bras have to offer. So now you have one of my fashion hacks. Never underestimate the feeling of freedom and comfort. Od to “the ties that bind”!

I am disappointed that this article only serves to re-enforce the idea that cup sizes are static, with a phrase like “whether you’re an athletic A or a full-figured DD”. On many frame sizes a DD is not all that full-figured, as the volume of your breasts depends on both your cup AND band size. Many women are mis-measured into that cup size because it’s the largest one many (American) retailers carry and end up enduring a lot of discomfort as a result.
